the best books i have read this year (no one asked but i’m going to say them anyway:)

  • Uprooted by Naomi Novik
  • Memory of Water by Emmi Itäranta (absolutely beautiful debut from finnish writer, I haven’t read dystopia this good since a handmaid’s tale! i read it in finnish, but it also has official english translation)
  • Odin’s Child by Siri Petterson (fantasy with “norse roots”! i’m not sure if it has english translation, but hopefully it will - it was really good!)
  • The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski (probably the best YA i read this year. sadly i didn’t like the sequel that much, but hopefully the last book will be good!)

I still need to read Six of Crows and Kudottujen kujien kaupunki this year, I’m pretty sure I’ll like them a lot! Overall this wasn’t that great book year though…

Also, the biggest disappointment to me was Throne of Glass; the setting is so interesting and tumblr is full of nice edits about it, but it was just?? bland?? Does the series actually get better after the first book or…?

Update: I read Six of Crows and it was so good!! Highly recommended!

Strong words to use on a Resume

If you have ever had to write a resume for work or for an application, then you know the hardest part is figuring out what type of words to use that sound professional and and intelligent.

Example: If an application asks you if you have any relevant experience for a job at a day care center and you have experience, like you have babysat children. You would look at the words in the columns to see what words you should use that will help your resume stand out. You might put down “Have supervised and attended to children on a regular basis.”

I hope this is helpful to you.

Now this is a great resume list of action words.  I love that it’s broken down by types of jobs.  Saving for future use.
